LAHORE – Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir, alongside SSP Traffic Syed Nadeem Abbas, on Monday released the Punjab Traffic Police annual performance report for 2025. The report highlights significant developments, enforcement measures, and reforms implemented across the province during the year.

According to the report, Punjab — with a population of 132 million — has over 25.7 million registered vehicles, while nearly 30 million vehicles travel on roads daily across the province, including Lahore. DIG Waqas Nazir stated that only 21% of total traffic accidents occurring in Punjab are reported in areas within the jurisdiction of the traffic police.
He added that helmet enforcement led to a major reduction in head injuries compared to the previous year. Statistics show that 25% of road accidents occurred due to overspeeding, while 19% resulted from rash driving.
The report revealed that more than 12,800 traffic officers and personnel are deployed daily across Punjab. During 2025, a total of 12.5 million challan tickets were issued, marking a 53% increase in traffic law enforcement compared to previous years.
Action against motorcyclists resulted in more than 655,000 challan tickets, while over 2.145 million challans were issued for driving without a license — reflecting a 187% rise in enforcement. Helmet violations led to over 528,000 challans, while action taken by car wardens recorded a 51% increase. The report also recorded unprecedented rises in enforcement: 536% against rooftop passengers and 733% against underage drivers.
A record 14 million driving licenses were issued during 2025, reflecting a dramatic 2,260% increase compared to previous years. To improve accessibility, three new mobile licensing units have been introduced across Punjab, and six major cities now feature women-focused “Pink Licensing Vans” for female empowerment.
Additionally, a driving license facility has been established at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore for domestic and international passengers. So far, over five million citizens have downloaded e-driving licenses.
DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir said that strict implementation of traffic laws, public awareness campaigns, and modernized services resulted in a significant drop in fatal road accidents during the year. He reaffirmed that Punjab Traffic Police will continue efforts to ensure safety of lives and establish a safer traffic environment across the province.
