LAHORE: The Negotiation Skills Training Workshop was organized by EDI to equip participants with practical strategies for managing conflicts effectively. The program focused on enhancing communication, decision-making and leadership skills in complex professional environments.

A diverse group of participants attended from across the country, including civil officers from both federal and provincial governments, in addition to private sector executives, including academia. Key representatives from prominent ministries and departments comprised the National Assembly of Pakistan, Pakistan Civil Aviation, Human Resource Board, Punjab Mineral Development Corporation, Punjab Cattle Market Management & Development Company, The Urban Mobile Company, Multan Electric Power Company, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Forman Christian College Universisty (FCCU), National Institute of Public Policy (NIPP), National Institute of Public Adminisration and NSPP, Lahore.
Dr. Naveed Elahi, Dean EDI, in his formal opening remarks, highlighted that the Negotiation Skills Training Workshop focused on managing conflicts through effective negotiations, equipping participants with practical strategies to reach mutually beneficial outcomes. The program emphasized enhancing communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex professional and organizational settings.
Mr. Kamran Ahmad, Director EDI, presented a comprehensive overview of the Institute’s performance and strategic goals. He emphasized that EDI’s planning process ensures the careful selection of experts from professional, academic and training domains to provide a holistic and integrated perspective on emerging issues. He also highlighted the success of previous programs, noting the diverse participation of officers from across the country.
The workshop featured eminent Guest Speakers, including Prof. Dr. Sa’ad B. Malik, Professor of Psychiatry, who delivered lecture on the topic “Understanding Negotiations: Types (Distributive & Integrative) and Elements (BATNA, WATNA & Goals)”, Mr. Shoaib Mir, Former Federal Secretary, shared insights on “Strategic Conflict Management and Negotiation in the Public Sector: integrating Theory and Practice for Eenhanced Institutional Effectiveness” and Prof. Dr. Jawad Syed, Professor at LUMS, presented an in-depth three hours session on “Effective Communication and Ethical Strategies in Negotiation: Managing Perceptions, Overcoming Barriers & Avoiding unfair Tactics”.
Following concluding session, the Dean EDI, Dr. Naveed Elahi, commended the participants’ dedication and noted that the competencies gained would enhance their ability to manage conflicts and negotiate with strategic clarity. Participants demonstrated strong engagement and expressed appreciation for the well-organized workshop. The Dean EDI also awarded certificates to participants in recognition of their active participation and commitment.
