VATICAN CITY, Italy — Chairman of the Islamic Ulema Board, Maulana Muhammad Asim Makhdoom, met Pope Leo in Italy, where a 27-member Pakistani delegation attended the 60th Golden Jubilee of Nostra Aetate.

Pope Leo expressed great joy over the interfaith services of Maulana Muhammad Asim Makhdoom. The Pakistani delegation also presented a traditional Pakistani carpet to the Pope as a token of goodwill.
A grand ceremony was held in Vatican City to mark the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, attended by world leaders from across the globe at the invitation of Pope Leo.
The Chairman of the Islamic Ulema Board, Maulana Muhammad Asim Makhdoom, was specially invited by the Pope to attend the event. On this occasion, Father James Channon, Father Naqash Azam, Maulana Muhammad Zubair Abid, and others were also present.
Father James Channon highlighted Maulana Asim Makhdoom’s remarkable efforts for interfaith harmony in Pakistan, which Pope Leo warmly appreciated.
Maulana Asim Makhdoom said that the 60th Golden Jubilee celebrations in Vatican City, Rome, would prove to be a milestone in promoting interfaith tolerance. He termed Pope Leo’s address on interfaith harmony as a “historic document” for global peace and understanding.
