Amid circulating reports of record cold and severe drought this year, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has clarified that while Pakistan may see below-normal rainfall, there is no threat of drought or extreme cold conditions.
According to the NDMA, the country will receive less rainfall than average this year, though drought is unlikely. Snowfall in the northern regions is also expected to be limited, but the 23% higher-than-normal monsoon rains will help maintain sufficient water levels through winter. Only certain parts of Balochistan may experience mild drought.

The authority further noted that light meteorological drought could occur in Kharan, Chagai, and Washuk-Noshki, but a widespread dry spell is not expected. Owing to the La Niña weather pattern, record-breaking cold is not anticipated, though December and January are likely to be colder than usual.
Officials warned that the season might still feel slightly cooler and drier, and the reduced rainfall could worsen air quality, potentially increasing the spread of diseases.
