Afridi, a first-time MPA from PK-70 (District Khyber), has been a loyal PTI member with deep roots in the party’s youth wing. He earlier served as President of the Insaf Students Federation (ISF) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the current provincial setup, Afridi first worked as Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Communication and Works, before being elevated to Minister for Higher Education.

Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Afridi is also a businessman by profession. In the 2024 general elections, he won decisively from PK-70, defeating PML-N’s Bilawal Afridi and JUI-F’s Hameedullah Jan Afridi by a wide margin.
Former CM Ali Amin Gandapur, who took oath on March 2, 2024, resigned less than two years into his tenure after party founder Imran Khan called for a leadership change.
The development was confirmed by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, who said that Sohail Afridi’s nomination as chief minister reflects the party’s commitment to promoting young and energetic leadership from the grassroots level.
