A dinner reception was hosted in her honor by former Thai Prime Minister and telecom tycoon Thaksin Shinawatra. The event was also attended by Thailand’s youngest-ever former female Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who joined her father in extending a warm welcome to Maryam.
Both former Thai premiers praised Maryam Nawaz’s development vision, governance reforms, and welfare projects. Thaksin Shinawatra lauded her and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s struggle for the people, calling it “truly inspiring.”
In return, Maryam appreciated the Shinawatra family’s public service, reforms, and economic initiatives, saying Thailand’s reforms had set a benchmark in strengthening institutions. She emphasized that ties between Pakistan and Thailand are rooted in mutual respect, economic cooperation, and cultural harmony.
Highlighting Punjab’s potential, Maryam said: “We want to boost trade and investment in textiles, agriculture, tourism, and technology. The Thai business community can cash in on the incentives Punjab is offering, as the province provides easy access to regional markets.”
She further noted that cultural diplomacy, education, and tourism could serve as effective bridges between the two peoples. Maryam added that under the Punjab government’s Digital Nation vision, youth are being equipped with modern skills to meet global challenges.
