LAHORE: In connection with National Minorities Day and Pakistan’s Independence Day, a dignified ceremony was organized at Central Jail Gujranwala, where Sonia Asher, Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights and Minority Affairs, Punjab, attended as the chief guest.

Before the ceremony, Sonia Asher toured various sections of the jail, interacted with inmates, and reviewed the available facilities. She appreciated the efforts of the jail administration for maintaining cleanliness, quality of food, and dedicated worship areas for minority inmates.
In her address, Sonia Asher stated that the cleanliness, food, and overall arrangements for minority prisoners were impressive. The satisfaction expressed by the inmates reflects the jail administration’s commitment to religious harmony and equality without discrimination.
She further added that under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, jails across the province are being transformed into rehabilitation centers. Inmates are not only being provided with improved facilities but are also being educated and trained so they may reintegrate into society with dignity and contribute to the country’s development upon release.
During the event, Pastor leaders addressed the inmates, encouraging them to adopt patience, repentance, and a positive outlook. They emphasized utilizing the time in prison for self-reflection and spiritual growth, calling it the path to true freedom.
To celebrate Independence Day in advance, the guests and minority inmates jointly cut a cake, marking the occasion with joy and unity.
Asher Aryan, Aamir Ashraf (Chairman, Family Spot Network Gujranwala), Pastor Adil Aslam, Pastor Sabir Gul, Rana Muhammad Faisal (Social Support Officer, Department of Human Rights and Minority Affairs), Hassan Asif Kamboh, Asif Aziz (President, Pakistan Muslim League-N), along with other representatives of religious minorities were also present on the occasion.
