LAHORE: A solemn and dignified ceremony was held at the Alhamra Arts Council on Monday to mark Police Martyrs’ Day, paying glowing tribute to the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Addressing the gathering, Lahore CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana said, “The sacrifices of police martyrs are our most valuable asset and a source of great pride. While August 4 is officially designated as Police Martyrs’ Day, their memories live in our hearts 365 days a year.”
The event was attended by Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Punjab Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, families of martyrs, senior police officers, media personnel, and well-known names from the showbiz industry.
In a gesture of support, ownership documents for residential plots were handed over to families of martyrs who fell before 2017. Additionally, modern laptops were awarded to 26 children of martyrs to aid their education.
CCPO Kamyana revealed that 342 officers of Lahore Police have laid down their lives in the line of duty. “Because of their supreme sacrifices, we live in peace today,” he said. “Our bond with every martyr’s family is stronger than ever.”
He outlined the department’s welfare initiatives, including housing, dowry assistance, education scholarships, and medical care for martyrs’ families. Under the 2024–25 Martyrs’ Package, homes worth Rs. 129.5 million have been allocated to nine families, scholarships over Rs. 27.1 million awarded to 111 children, and more than Rs. 6.9 million distributed among 17 families as marriage assistance.
Kamyana also spoke about the “Shaheed Welfare Eye” platform, enabling families of martyrs to directly reach out to his office for swift resolution of issues.
He stressed the familial spirit within the police force. “Lahore Police stands beside the families of martyrs on every occasion of life,” he stated. “Every officer is filled with the spirit of sacrifice and will not hesitate to defend the people at all costs.”
The ceremony featured emotional tributes from martyrs’ family members, speeches from top officials, and performances by artists including Suhail Ahmed, Syed Noor, Iftikhar Thakur, Humaira Arshad, and Sahir Ali Bagga, who sang patriotic songs in memory of the fallen heroes.
