According to a police spokesperson, 5,371 individuals were arrested this year for possessing illegal arms, and 5,343 FIRs have been registered against them. Additionally, 682 suspects were apprehended for aerial firing, resulting in 548 cases being filed in various police stations across the city.
During the operations, police recovered a large cache of illegal arms, including 36 Kalashnikovs, 277 rifles, 204 shotguns, 4,734 pistols, and over 24,000 bullets.
Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana reaffirmed the department’s zero-tolerance policy against the possession and public display of illegal weapons and the dangerous trend of aerial firing.
He directed all law enforcement personnel to keep a close eye on those involved in the buying and selling of illegal arms, and to act swiftly against anyone attempting to spread fear or promote ‘dala culture’ through unlawful activities.
The CCPO also warned that those who glorify weapons or aerial firing on social media will face strict legal consequences. He called on the public to play their part, stay within the bounds of the law, and help the police maintain peace and security in the city.
