LAHORE: On the 8th anniversary of the tragic suicide attack at the Old Vegetable Market near Arfa Karim Tower, Lahore Police held a solemn ceremony to pay tribute to the brave officers who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty.

A police contingent visited the graves of Sub-Inspector Riaz Ahmed, Assistant Sub-Inspector Fayyaz Ahmed, and Constables Umair Ghani, Sajid Ali, Muazzam Ali, Ghulam Murtaza, Ali Raza, and Abid Ali. The officers presented a smart salute, laid floral wreaths, and offered Fatiha for the souls of the fallen heroes. Families of the martyrs also attended to pay their respects.
The cowardly suicide blast, which occurred eight years ago, claimed the lives of several policemen who were performing their duties with utmost dedication.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore, Bilal Siddique Kamyana, in his message, paid glowing tribute to the martyrs. “The history of Lahore Police is marked with the blood and bravery of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. So far, 342 officers and officials have laid down their lives in the line of duty,” he stated.
Kamyana further emphasized that the sacrifices of martyrs are the bedrock of Pakistan’s security and survival, adding that Lahore Police remains steadfast on the frontline to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
He reaffirmed the department’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the martyrs’ families, especially in areas such as education, healthcare, and employment. “It is our sacred duty to stand beside the families of our fallen heroes,” the CCPO said.
The ceremony ended with a renewed pledge to honour the legacy of the martyrs, support their families, and continue their mission of courage, sacrifice, and public service.
