LAHORE: The Lahore Police commemorated the 26th death anniversary of the valiant SP Abdul Samad, who was martyred while rescuing innocent civilians from kidnappers in 1999. A solemn ceremony was held at Miani Sahib Graveyard, where a smartly turned-out contingent of Lahore Police paid tribute by offering a salute, laying a floral wreath and reciting Fateha at the officer’s grave.

On July 14, 1999, kidnappers hijacked a bus full of passengers demanding ransom. SP Abdul Samad, then serving as SP Cantonment, courageously pursued the abductors. In the course of the rescue operation, he was fatally shot by the criminals, sacrificing his life to save the hostages.
Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana paid glowing tribute to the martyr. In his message, he said, “SP Abdul Samad is our pride. Lahore Police is the custodian of the supreme sacrifices of 342 martyrs. The legacy of these brave officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty will always be remembered with honor.”
CCPO Lahore emphasized the importance of continuing the mission of the martyrs — to safeguard the nation and uphold peace. He reiterated the police department’s commitment to the welfare of the families of these heroes and vowed to uphold their legacy with utmost respect.
“The sacrifices of these brave sons of the soil will never be forgotten. Their mission of protecting the nation will continue, God willing,” he added.
