NEWS DESK: In a chilling twist to what began as a joyful union, a young Indian bride who mysteriously vanished during her honeymoon has now been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her husband.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, 25, surrendered to police on June 8 — six days after her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, 30, was found dead at the bottom of a remote gorge in northeastern India, his throat reportedly slit. The couple, who tied the knot in a traditional ceremony in Indore on May 11, had been on their honeymoon when they both suddenly disappeared on May 24.

Authorities claim Sonam conspired with her lover, identified as Raj, and hired a group of men to execute a calculated murder plot against her husband. According to Indore Deputy Police Commissioner Rajesh Dandotiya, “The plan was to take Raja far away, kill him in an isolated place, dispose of his body so it wouldn’t be found, and then start a new life.”
Following her arrest, four other individuals — believed to be involved in the murder — were also taken into custody.
The case has gripped national headlines and stirred a fierce debate, especially after Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, came forward to defend his daughter’s innocence. “My daughter is incapable of such a crime,” he told media outlets on June 9. “The government has been misleading the public since day one. She married Raja with the full blessings of both families.”
The news has sent shockwaves through both families. Raja’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, initially rejected the idea of Sonam’s involvement, stating, “Their marriage was arranged with care and they appeared happy. There were no signs of conflict between them before or after the wedding.”
However, following reports that one of the arrested accomplices had a prior connection with Sonam, Vipin changed his stance. “Now I believe the Meghalaya police weren’t lying,” he said, acknowledging the weight of the emerging evidence.
The couple’s disappearance on May 24 launched an intensive search involving police, local citizens, and disaster relief teams. Raja’s body was eventually discovered on June 2. Sonam’s whereabouts remained unknown until her dramatic surrender to the authorities on June 8.
With the case still unfolding, Sonam’s legal representation has yet to comment on the allegations. Meanwhile, investigators continue to delve into the grim details of what was supposed to be the beginning of a lifelong journey — tragically cut short in a remote gorge miles away from home.
