LAHORE — A delegation from the National Women Journalists Forum (NWJF), led by President Farzana Chaudhry, held a significant meeting with Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan at the Governor’s House. The discussion centered on the challenges faced by women journalists and the need for institutional support to ensure their safety, professional growth, and equal representation in the media industry.

During the meeting, President Farzana Chaudhry introduced the NWJF as the sole representative body for women journalists operating at both local and national levels. She highlighted the organization’s continuous efforts to address the issues confronting female journalists, including workplace discrimination and lack of recognition.
Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan acknowledged the vital role of women in journalism and assured the delegation of his commitment to supporting their cause. He emphasized the importance of providing equal opportunities and a safe working environment for women in the media sector.
The delegation also raised concerns about the challenges faced by women journalists in educational institutions, particularly regarding their children’s access to higher education. They requested the Governor, in his capacity as Chancellor of provincial universities, to consider fee concessions for the children of women journalists and to allocate visiting lecturer positions for them to enhance their financial stability.
Governor Khan responded positively to these suggestions, expressing his willingness to facilitate such initiatives and to ensure that women journalists receive the support they need to thrive professionally and personally.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding of the importance of empowering women journalists and a commitment to taking concrete steps toward addressing their concerns.
The delegation included senior journalists Naseem Kanwal, Durkhshanda Alimdar, Fauzia Gohar, Rabia Azmat, Azki Maqsood, Mubashra Sultan, Nabila Akbar, Zahida Parveen, Raheela Mughal, Saima Iqbal, Umme Farwa, Ayesha Fayyaz, Iqra Mughal, Iqra Khan, Komal, Ayesha Shehab, Iqra Farooq, and Ujala Riaz.
