LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution commending the Pakistan Armed Forces and the government for their successful response to Indian aggression through “Operation Banyan Marsus.” The resolution, submitted by Istikham Pakistan Party MPA Shoaib Siddiqui, praised the Pakistan Air Force and Army for their strategic excellence and bravery in repelling the Indian military offensive.

The resolution paid tribute to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Hafiz Asim Munir for what it described as “exceptional leadership and effective diplomacy.” It also acknowledged the strategic coordination between political and military leadership that, according to lawmakers, led to a decisive victory despite the Indian military’s numerical superiority.
Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan, who chaired the session, stated that the victory reflected not just political will but the collective spirit of Pakistani nationalism. “This is a victory for all Pakistanis, not just one party. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s wisdom and General Munir’s resolve compelled India to accept a ceasefire and return to dialogue,” he said.
According to the resolution, Indian forces launched “Operation Sindoor” on May 6–7, following an alleged false-flag operation in Pahalgam on April 22. The resolution claimed that Indian forces attacked civilian areas, mosques, and seminaries in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, causing the martyrdom of innocent civilians including women and children. In retaliation, Pakistan conducted “Operation Sisa Plai Devar” on May 10, followed by “Operation Banyan Marsus,” leading to what lawmakers termed a “historic victory.”
The resolution commended the Pakistan Air Force for neutralizing Indian air defenses, destroying Rafale jets, airbases, and ammunition depots, calling it an achievement of immense strategic value. It also lauded the bravery of ground troops and the unity of the Pakistani nation in the face of aggression.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was also praised for her leadership and morale-boosting efforts during the conflict. Shoaib Siddiqui proposed that May 11 be marked annually as a day of thanksgiving for the operation’s success.
Opposition leaders, including Ali Haider Gilani, echoed these sentiments, accusing India’s intelligence agency RAW of involvement in subversive activities within Pakistan. Government and opposition MPs, including Ramesh Singh Arora and Ahmed Iqbal, affirmed their unwavering support for the armed forces.
The session concluded with lawmakers across party lines expressing national unity and a shared resolve to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty against any future threats.
