LAHORE: Customs authorities at Allama Iqbal International Airport successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of life-saving medicines into Pakistan.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Collector Customs Tayyeba Kayani, based on secret intelligence.
During a special checks, Zohaib Shams, a passenger arriving from Jeddah on flight SV734, was found carrying millions of rupees worth of unapproved medicines used for cancer treatment and kidney transplants.
The accused was taken into custody, and an investigation has been launched.
Collector Customs Tayyaba Kiani highlighted that challenges in the legal import process for medical drugs and equipment have led individuals to seek illegal alternatives.
She further warned that these smuggled medicines could be counterfeit or substandard, posing a serious risk to public health.
“The use of unregulated medicines can have dangerous consequences, including severe health complications and even loss of lives,” she said.
Customs officials are treating this crackdown as a national duty to protect public health by ensuring that only legally approved, high-quality medicines are available in the country. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to preventing the circulation of unauthorized and potentially harmful drugs, urging patients and businesses to rely on legally approved channels for medical supplies.
