LAHORE: Legendary musician Sajjad Tafu is hosting “Fun Aur Funkar”, a special program on Radio Pakistan dedicated to highlighting the golden era of Pakistani film music.

The show takes a nostalgic journey through the contributions of Pakistan’s most celebrated playback singers, music composers, and poets who played a key role in shaping Lollywood from 1936 to 1970.
Sajjad Tafu, a Tamgha-e-Imtiaz recipient, is a well-known figure in the music industry, having provided background music for 104 Pakistani films. He is the son of the legendary Ustad Tafu, who composed music for over 700 films. Sajjad Tafu, often referred to as the “Encyclopedia of Pakistani Film Music,” has dedicated his career to preserving and reviving the country’s rich musical heritage.
The program pays tribute to some of Pakistan’s most iconic music composers who shaped the film industry with their unforgettable melodies. The featured composers include Baba GA Chishti, Master Ghulam Haider, Master Inayat Hussain, Rasheed Attre, Feroz Nizami, A Hameed, and Khurshid Anwar. Their contributions played a vital role in establishing Lollywood’s identity and elevating Pakistan’s music industry to new heights.
“Fun Aur Funkar” also celebrates the golden voices that defined the era of Pakistani cinema. Legendary playback singers such as Madam Noor Jehan, Inayat Hussain Bhatti, Zubaida Khanum, Naheed Niazi, Munir Hussain, Naseem Begum, and Nazeer Begum are being remembered for their melodious contributions. These singers played a crucial role in making Pakistani film songs timeless and unforgettable.
The show also brings to light the contributions of legendary poets who penned the lyrics for some of the most memorable songs in Lollywood’s history. Some of the renowned poets include Baba Alam Siah Posh, Hazin Qadri (famous for Tangay Wala Khair Mang Da), Ahmad Rahi (Wangli Walarya, Tu Tay Mooli O Mutiyar), Khawaja Pervaiz (Sun Way Blori Akh Walya), Qateel Shifai, Masroor Anwar, and Tasheer Kazmi. Their poetic excellence helped elevate Pakistani film music to global recognition.
Sajjad Tafu continues his mission to revive Pakistan’s film music industry. His own contributions include composing background scores for hit movies such as Aina, Bandish, Amber, and Asas.
“Fun Aur Funkar” has received immense appreciation both in Pakistan and internationally, ensuring that Lollywood’s musical legacy remains alive for future generations.
