LAHORE – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza has stated that his party’s alliance with PML-N is neither based on joy nor hope. Speaking at a workers’ convention in Sahiwal, he claimed that PPP was deliberately kept out of power in Punjab in 2002 and 2008, as a PPP-led government in the province would have solidified the party’s national presence.

Murtaza emphasized that PPP knew from the beginning that working with PML-N would be difficult, but the circumstances after the February 8 elections left no other choice. He revealed that PPP initially offered PTI the opportunity to form the government without demanding ministries, but PTI was allegedly working on a foreign agenda to destabilize state institutions.
He criticized efforts to weaken PPP in Punjab, asserting that the party remains Pakistan’s largest anti-establishment force. He defended PPP’s economic policies under Asif Ali Zardari, including the Iran gas pipeline deal, Gwadar project, and CPEC, which he claims were later derailed.
Murtaza concluded that if PPP regains its strength in Punjab, the party will have both the Prime Minister and Chief Minister in the future.
