LAHORE: The salaries of members and ministers in the Punjab Assembly have been increased from 300 to 800 per cent.

The Punjab Bill 2024, which revises the salaries of public representatives, was passed by a majority vote, despite objection from the opposition leader.
In the assembly, the salary of an MPA has now been increased to Rs400,000 while the minister’s salary has been raised from Rs100,000 to Rs960,000.
The speaker’s salary has been increased from Rs125,000 to Rs950,000, the deputy speaker’s salary has been increased from Rs120,000 to Rs775,000.
The parliamentary secretary’s salary has been increased from Rs83,000 to Rs451,000.
The chief minister’s advisor’s salary has been increased from Rs100,000 to Rs665,000, and the special assistant’s salary has been increased from Rs100,000 to Rs665,000.
Opposition leader Ahmed Khan Bhachar raised an objection to the salary increase bill. “Is this bill in accordance with the Parliamentary Rules Act 1972?” he questioned.
Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan replying the question said that this bill is absolutely correct and is according to the existing laws.
He termed the increase in salaries as a good move by the government.
