LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly has passed totally 12 laws in the first parliamentary year of the 24-2023.

The role of the opposition was limited to protests only, while the assembly members received crores of rupees in salaries and allowances due to18 assembly sessions.
The first session of the Punjab Assembly began on February 23, 2023. Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s attendance in the assembly was limited to important occasions.
During the year, the assembly was in session for 86 days, while the actual sitting was for 62 days. A total of 13 bills were presented by the government, out of which 12 were passed. Thus, 13 private bills were presented, out of which 3 were passed.
In the current year, 270 resolutions were presented by the assembly members, out of which 32 were passed. Out of 558 adjournment motions, 264 were disposed of. 31 out of 172 attention notices were replied to.
The role of Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Khan remained strong in the assembly.
He was successful in running the affairs of the assembly well and chaired every session himself. The opposition’s role in the assembly matters has not been very effective. The opposition could not create much problems during the government’s legislation.
