By M Qadeer
Q: Congratulations on your recent election victory as an LCCI member. How do you feel about this success?

Waqas: Thank you! It is truly an honor to be elected as an LCCI member, especially in my first attempt. This achievement would not have been possible without the visionary leadership of Ali Hussam Asghar and the unwavering support of the Lahore business community. I am deeply grateful for their trust and confidence in me.
Q: What made you to contest the LCCI elections this year?
Waqas: I have always been passionate about addressing the challenges faced by the business community. When Ali Hussam Asghar, a dynamic leader, encouraged me to step forward, I saw it as an opportunity to serve and create a meaningful impact. His leadership and vision for change motivated me to fight for this position.
Q: As a former EC member of REAP and now an LCCI member, what major issues will you prioritize?
Waqas: My primary focus will be resolving the pressing concerns of our business community, particularly with institutions like the FBR, Customs, Environment Department, and LESCO. We need to address issues such as bureaucratic delays, high energy costs, and taxation policies that hinder growth. I also aim to build stronger partnerships between businesses and regulatory bodies to ensure smoother operations.
Q: The rice sector recently achieved a $4 billion export target. What role did the business community play in this accomplishment?
Waqas: The $4 billion export milestone is a testament to the resilience and hard work of our rice exporters and traders. The business community’s collaboration and efforts, innovative practices, and commitment to quality have been pivotal in this achievement. I thank all stakeholders for their contributions and assure them of continued support to surpass future targets.
Q: How do you see fostering further growth in the business sector of Lahore?
Waqas: My vision includes creating a more business-friendly environment by addressing systemic inefficiencies, advocating for policy reforms, and facilitating ease of doing business. I aim to bring modern technological solutions and ensure fair representation of businesses in decision-making processes.
Q: What message would you convey to the business community of Lahore?
Waqas: I would like to express my deep gratitude to the business community for their trust in me. I assure them that I will work tirelessly to address their issues and uphold their interests. Together, under the guidance of leaders like Ali Hussam Asghar, we can overcome challenges and achieve new milestones for our city and country.
