LAHORE: Mian Abuzar Shad has formally assumed charge as the President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) after a sweeping victory in the Annual General Meeting. His group, PIAF, Progressive, Pioneer Alliance, grabbed all 32 seats, marking a historic moment for the LCCI.

In his victory speech, Shad expressed his gratitude to the Lahore business community for their unbelievable trust in him and acknowledged Mian Anjum Nisar’s political vision in leading the alliance to an unprecedented win. He pledged to empower ties between the business community and the government, ensuring that Lahore’s traders and industrialists are well-represented.
Highlighting the recent positive economic indicators of 2024, Shad praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for steering the country towards stability. “The stock market crossing 82,000 points, the sharp drop in petrol prices, and the reduction of inflation from 37% to 9.5% are clear signs of recovery,” he stated. He also lauded the Army Chief’s efforts in stabilizing the economy and mentioned Pakistan’s recognition by Bloomberg as the best stock market of 2024.
Shad emphasized the importance of these milestones, including a projected $7 billion loan from the IMF and a $3 billion surge in remittances in August, which have contributed to the current account surplus. He also noted the upcoming visit of the Chinese Premier, which he believes will further strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
