LAHORE: Under the chairmanship of Commissioner Lahore Zaid bin Maqsood, a meeting was held regarding the strategy to combat ” One of the main cause of smog-obstruction in traffic flow”. was reviewed.
Commissioner Lahore said that the CM road map team along with the Punjab Safe City Authority has identified 10 major traffic bottleneck points in central city while a total of 55 traffic points that cause smog have also been identified. He said that there are several causes of smog. Traffic obstruction is one of the most important reasons. He said that on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab, comprehensive planning is being done to combat all the factors of smog.
Commissioner Lahore directed to start work on 10 points for anti-smog activities. More updated data will lead to more smart working,he added. Further work should be done on collecting data on 2 peak days and 1 week days for air quality analysis,he said. Commissioner Lahore was informed that due to illegal and wrong parking and encroachments, the central city is engulfed in smog due to obstruction of traffic flow. He said that smog is not only harmful to human health but also affects commercial activities. Anti-smog is the first priority of the Punjab government. Strategy will be adopted in every aspect and department, and under the pre-smog plan, the departments will take steps for anti-smog. Commissioner Lahore said that
Non-standard petrol and fuel are also major causes of smog.The Department of Industries and AC must take action. Actions must be taken at the tehsil level against smoke-emitting vehicles, motorcycles and rickshaws. Commissioner Lahore said that Actions must also be taken against brick kions, construction sites and trolleys without covers,, there is zero tolerance.
In the meeting presided over by Commissioner Lahore, Secretary Environment Punjab Raja Jahangir Anwar, DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza, CTO Lahore Amara Athar, DGLDA Tahir Farooq, DG Environment Punjab Hameed, Additional Commissioner Abdul Salam Arif, COM.
